CFD Simulation of Dry Density Separation of Iron Ore Fines (Room 402)

Dry ore beneficiation is an alternative approach to wet processing aimed at minimizing the energy expense. Ore fines fed onto a separator plate and subjected to a controlled blast of air issuing from its base can be separated based on their density values in proportion to their iron content. Particle-tracking simulations were carried out to characterize the ore separation degree as a function of various parameters, namely blast velocity, particle size, rate of iron ore feed and separator plate orientation. The economics of this process are assessed based on the optimal parameters.
