Presentation of the RFCS Project BINGO – Bulk Density and Internal Gas Pressure in Coke Ovens

This project aims at increasing coke plant service life by controlling internal gas pressure in industrial ovens. A main point that was highlighted is the difficulty to obtain accurate values for each internal gas pressure measurement. Therefore, the project partners have improved the probe end. Another part was a long-term investigation of blend characteristics. Results showed a strong dependence on blend grain size. A round robin was performed between the pilot ovens on gravity and stamp-charging technology. To obtain the same range of internal gas pressure as at the industrial scale, an increase of density has to be implemented in the pilot facilities.
