Pelletizing is one of the most common agglomeration technologies for preparing iron ore concentrates for conventional and other alternative ironmaking processes. Due to the availability of raw materials, different feed materials have been historically used for pelletizing. However, the role of ore characteristics in pelletizing was not fully elaborated in the literature. During pelletizing, the finely ground ore particles are mixed with water and binders, and then rolled to form spherical balls, which are further dried, pre-heated and indurated. This paper reviews the importance of ore characteristics to the balling, pre-heating and induration stages of the pelletizing process.
