AOD Process Control: From Slide Rule to Factory Automation (Room 414)

06 May 19
9:30 AM - 10:00 AM

Tracks: Specialty Alloy & Foundry

Process calculations for additions and flowrates are more detailed for stainless and specialty steels than for carbon steel due to the cost and chemical effects of elements such as nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, manganese and chromium. Powerful and cheap computing offers the means to embed these calculations into the process control system. Some examples are provided from past work and experience, and new ideas and methodologies presented for the future.
