Lime-Magnetite Pellets (LMPs) for Ironmaking (Room 402)

In this paper, the prospects of using lime-magnetite pellets (LMPs) as an alternative, reactive feed material in ironmaking is examined. The reactivity of the LMPs of various compositions is measured using a scaled-down version of the ISO standard reducibility test and the results are compared with the reducibility of industrially produced sinters and pellets. Compressive strength and tumble index of the reactive LMPs are also measured, and the optimum range of heating conditions and composition for forming industrially suitable LMPs is reported. The paper also includes a thorough analysis of potential advantages and challenges in the commercial use of LMPs.
