First Movable KR in India Has Successfully Started Up in JSW Steel at Vijayanagar (Room 409)

A KR hot metal desulfurization plant has successfully started up at two steel melting shops at JSW Steel's Vijayanagar Works. The plant is the first movable-type KR in India and has achieved excellent operational performance, i.e., more than 95% desulfurization ratio with less than 12 kg/t-HM of lime at a treatment time of 16 minutes and 10 ppm of [S] after treatment can be attainable. Movable-type KR is highly productive and cost-saving equipment compared to a fixed-type KR. This paper describes features of the KR technology and equipment and metallurgical and operation performance compared to the injection-type desulfurization process.
