Experimental Investigation of Hydrochar Injection to the Blast Furnace (Room 405)

An experimental study was performed to investigate the suitability of hydrochar for blast furnace (BF) injection. Three hydrochar samples originated from organic sludge were selected and tested. One was sewage sludge (SS), and the other two were pulp and paper mill sludge, i.e., bio-sludge (BS) and fiber reject (FR). Ignition, explosion and combustion properties were examined and compared with coal. The combustion rate was also examined at the tuyere raceway area by the experimental work. In addition, the blends of hydrochar and coal were investigated. Optimal blending proportions of hydrochar and coal were presented to show the improvement potential of the combustion characteristics.
