A5 | Courts, Cops, and DCS — What to Do When the Law Is Involved (Room Sun D)

07 May 19
10:15 AM - 11:30 AM

Tracks: Administration

What do you do when a police officer is demanding to see a special education student's psychological evaluation, or a school discipline file? Can police interview anyone they want in a school? Do you have to notify parents when a Department of Children Services investigator wants to interview their child? What do you do if a parent tells you they have an order of protection against the other parent? Attorney Amanda Lynn Morse will address the most common ways school districts interact with courts, law enforcement, and other governmental entities, including a basic breakdown of the roles of law enforcement, courts, and DCS in the school system and what specifically happens when these arms of the government want something from a school district.
