POSTER: Native Habitat Analysis for a Proposed Wind Project in North Dakota

20 Mar 18
5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Tracks: Permitting and Environmental Considerations, Poster Presentation

The North Dakota Game and Fish Department and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service are working with wind energy developers to identify and protect rare and declining habitats, more so than detectability and protection of individual wildlife species, with a focus of minimizing the footprint on native habitats to avoid listing of species dependent on these habitats. In North Dakota, native habitats of concern include native prairie and grasslands, woodlands, and wetlands. This presentation will describe a native habitat analysis developed by Tetra Tech, the wind energy project developer, and the North Dakota Game and Fish Department and conducted for a proposed wind energy project in North Dakota. The native habitat analysis included a desktop evaluation as well as field verification studies.
