Remember when a 100 meter turbine tower with a 100 meter rotor diameter was considered to be stretching the limits of practicable transportation and construction? The energetic benefits of higher towers and bigger rotors has driven technology to dizzying heights. As the standard commercial turbines blow through the 500 foot threshold, what does that mean for construction permits, construction impacts (clearing, transport), and Federal Aviation Administration permits? Does this change what we think we know about wildlife impacts? What about community impacts? This will panel explore these questions and consider what, ultimately, will limit the dimensions of wind power.
