Placebo, Nocebo, and Pain: Using The Patient Experience to Influence Outcomes (Room Vendome)

03 Mar 18
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM

Tracks: Philosophy / Science

This class will explore the current evidence regarding placebo, nocebo, and their relationship to the patient interaction, report of findings, and production of patient outcomes. Traditional philosophy hinges on thoughts, traumas, and toxins, and a great deal of time is spent in analyzing these traumas and toxins. Little time is spent in understanding the impact that the patient experience has on producing patient outcomes. Therefore, this session will also explore practices that can negatively impact the patient experience and show evidence to support changes in a practice that positively influence patient understanding and perception.
