Predictive Maintenance in Action: Understanding Workflow to Maximize O&M Performance

27 Feb 18
11:30 AM - 12:00 PM

Tracks: Emerging Technology

In this session, SaaS-based predictive analytics provider Uptake will share lessons learned from an analytics collaboration between U.S. energy-industry leader MidAmerican Energy Company (MEC). The wind sector has yet to capitalize on profit gains from big data insights. Owners don’t lack wind data, and many are already using software to monitor and generate predictions with potential to impact the bottom line. One major challenge remains: tying data-driven insights into workflow so that executives, analysts, managers and technicians can quickly make better decisions and take effective action. Uptake and MEC worked together on a user experience (UX) research discovery process to map the details and pain points of existing workflows in wind operations and maintenance. User-centered software design, which draws on this kind of ethnographic research, enables frictionless user adoption and more effective engagement during design and deployment. For Uptake and MEC, the process created a deeper understanding of the connection between business value, data, software, and experience in the field. This presentation will help attendees better harness the full value of their own data and expertise to improve O&M performance.
