Successful school literacy programs continue to be critical in improving student learning outcomes and measures of well-being. In this session, participants will be actively involved in exploring four main themes in examining literacy programs: the importance of teacher expertise, the need to be grounded in research, acknowledging literacy as a complex process, and enabling a mind shift in examining change. The presenters will pay specific attention to state and federal laws and policies that should guide literacy programs, including how they relate to the effective use of reading specialists and reading teachers.
