School board presidents have a unique role on the school board in providing leadership with meeting facilitation, building relationships with the superintendent and other members, working through conflict among members, and engaging community input in addition to many other responsibilities. Leadership coaching is a process that explores the strengths of the board president as a leader and enhances one’s effectiveness by learning new techniques. This session will explore the benefits of leadership coaching and explain the method by which leadership skills can be improved. Examples of coaching techniques will be described with the goal of supporting the board president in developing and maintaining a high functioning school board.
