DM2 | Case Study for Shortening Disability Durations With On-Site Resources (Room Islander D-E)

A pilot program aiming to improve the return-to-work process for short-term and long-term disability absences produced a 4-to-1 return on investment for employer Norton Healthcare. The initial phase eliminated 1,200 lost work days by applying ergonomic best practices, improving accommodations and providing psychosocial support. Functional job analysis, transitional-duty programing and improving employee communication also played a role. Outcomes from the pilot emphasizing on-site resources will provide a backdrop for examining the critical components of a successful disability return-to-work program and injury prevention efforts.
