Telemedicine improves access to care for varying conditions but can be challenging in the prehospital setting. This lecture will present four current uses around Charleston, South Carolina to illustrate ways in which telehealth can improve prehospital care. Distance Education: Sharing lecture content that allows for real-time interagency collaboration on protocols and best-practices. Distance Simulation: A method to train providers using distance simulation that places participants at a distance for training focused on critical decision-making in airway and trauma management. Telestroke: A program to allow neurologists to assess stroke patients in the field to reduce time to thrombolytic treatment. Telemental Health: Connecting EMS providers with a mental health response team to develop alternate care plans for lower acuity mental health patients.
