The Basics of EKGs for EMTs: It’s Not That Hard (Room National Harbor 2)

20 Feb 19
2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Tracks: Basics of Clinical Practice

EMTs frequently practice in tandem with a paramedic. Cardiac monitoring is often used yet EMTs have not widely been permitted to interpret the ECG rhythm despite knowing that this ability would enhance their ability to improve the quality of care. Additionally, some first responder and BLS services allow for the acquisition of 12-lead ECGs, but not their interpretation. This presentation will provide a simple approach to ECG interpretation and will be augmented by real-time audience response through the use of a smartphone app. The most common rhythm disturbances will be reviewed along with their clinical presentation. The fundamentals of 12 Lead interpretation will be provided and attendees will be given ECG interpretation reference material to use daily in their practice.
