Tracks: Basics of Clinical Practice

Respiratory emergencies are some of the most common patient conditions presented in EMS. Understanding their pathophysiology better will prepare you to deal with them. This lecture will reinforce your knowledge of the respiratory system and integrate it with a common sense approach to respiratory distress. The basic pathophysiology for asthma, COPD, and heart failure will be reviewed along with tips for distinguishing the various conditions. The role of capnography and lung sounds will be stressed alongside the use of CPAP and inhaled medication for their treatment.
