Withdrawal syndromes are becoming more and more commonly encountered by EMS providers, both during emergency response and interfacility transfers. While most providers are familiar with alcohol and opiate withdrawal, other syndromes, such as benzodiazepine, gabapentin, and GHB withdrawal are now being seen with increasing frequency. This lecture will present the clinical presentation, pathophysiology, and management of the most important types of withdrawal presentation discussed and review cutting-edge treatment and controversies.
