This all-encompassing swift water rescue session begins with the pre-planning necessary to be part of a successful rescue team and features lessons learned: how to properly assess a situation, identify resources necessary and recognize the hazards associated with water rescue. You’ll learn first on-scene actions that will facilitate a safe incident and how to understand water characteristics, a crucial aspect to setting up your team for a successful rescue. The session will also cover hydrology and the effect it has on the rescue, rescuers and victims. You’ll learn how to assess the scene and tips and techniques for assessing the victim(s). Proper personal protective equipment will be discussed for both shore-based and in-water rescues.
