Silicon Technologies for 5G mmWave FEMs and Phased Arrays (Room Exhibit Hall A)

17 Oct 18
4:30 PM - 5:00 PM
This presentation discusses 5G mmWave applications based on phased array systems, including: • Integrated mmWave FEMs and beamformers for 5G base stations and smartphones • Phased array front ends for internet broadband satellite ground and space applications • Radar and high-performance wireless applications Technology choices enable optimization across these applications. Chip designers can leverage the collective benefits of RF-centric technology features, device stacking, an optimized BEOL and a high-resistivity substrate to develop differentiated products. This talk explores how design/technology innovations like these can be used to optimize chips for 5G mmWave FEMs and phased arrays applications, with topics including: • Maximizing transmit output power, with Tx and Rx integration in integrated phased arrays for beamforming • EIRP, receiver sensitivity, available form factor and power budget, which determine the array size and beamforming architecture for a particular mmWave frequency • How performance, power (RF and DC) and integration dictate technology choice.
