Becoming a Rapid Learner...and the Happiness of Pursuit (Room Esplanade Ballroom)

Tracks: Re-Think Conference

In a time of constant change and disruption, when future success may require things you’re not even thinking about today, what does it take to rapidly master new skills? Max Deutsch knows a thing or two about this. Max is an obsessive learner, product builder, and guinea pig for the Month to Master project, in which he took on twelve ridiculously hard challenges in twelve months—like developing perfect pitch, solving a Rubik’s Cube in under 20 seconds, and defeating world champion Magnus Carlsen at a game of chess (he lost, but completed the other eleven). Max will share his (surprisingly simple) approach to rapid mastery, ways that you can strengthen your own creative and technical muscles, and most importantly the inherent value of pursuit. “Don’t measure the quality of your life by the outcomes,” he says, “but by the pursuit of those outcomes. If you optimize for and value the pursuit, favorable outcomes will follow anyway, even if they aren’t the outcomes you planned for.”
