33 - Making Safety Personal: Measuring Unique Psychological Risks of the Person and the Task (Room 371D-F)

22 Oct 18
2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Tracks: Research to Practice

Do you know the four personality traits that consistently predict injuries across industries? Everyone has a unique exposure to risk – and now it can be reliably measured using psychometrics. But there’s an additional layer to this exposure: It’s also affected by the nature of the task being performed. Industrial psychology is now linking these two key elements to determine an employee’s level of risk in any given situation through a “SafetyDNA” profile, as well as the safety traits most critical to the task – providing a data-driven approach that makes safety highly personal. We’ll share examples and results, along with ways to embed this methodology into existing safety systems – including coaching, JSAs, root cause analysis and training.
