17 - Safety Management Systems: Making the Business Case "JSE" (Room 381B)

Drawing from the presenter’s participation on the ANSI Z10 Safety Management Systems Standard subcommittee on business integration strategies, as well as his experience as a delegation member for the newly released ISO 45001 Global Safety and Health Standard, this session will focus on making the business case for risk management practices that progressively lower incident rates and drive the integration of safe work practices into daily operations. You’ll hear about new approaches that showcase the common ground and language between business management systems and safety management systems by linking safety and health considerations to the corporate goals roadmap. This includes an improved reporting structure that links to the outcomes being pursued by operations, human resources and legal departments. Also included will be examples of how safety management systems can be implemented successfully in small to medium sized employers.
