No one really enjoys old school sit and get PD! If I as the teacher/lecturer am bored, then I know that my students/attendees will also be bored. Student engagement is just as important when the teachers are the students. Administration should model their PD after the types of lessons they would like to see in their teachers’ classrooms. Teachers are told to check for learning along the way. Administrators ask them for engaging, interactive lessons, but too often our faculty meetings and trainings put them to sleep. If student-centered lessons are a must in the classroom, then teacher-centered PD is a great way to model this for them to see, feel and interact.
