Learn about new technologies that combine craft traditions with digital electronics. Sewable’s wearable projects invite different students into the wonders of STEAM by providing new and multiple on-ramps for a wider range of students. Sewable electronics, from stuffed animals that light up, talk and move, to wearables that incorporate lights, sensors and sound, can engage students who might not be that excited about a robot. This workshop takes you step by step from simple wearables that even young students can build to more complex wearables that can provide challenges such as electronics and programming to older students. Wearables offer students multiple on-ramps to the big ideas of STEAM, like programming, electronics, the design process, feedback, sensors and troubleshooting.
