How to Harness Technology for Early Learning (Room Booth 1805)

All technologies are not equal. Help little ones develop critical thinking skills and harness the power of the iPad and the Smartboard for motivation and engagement. This session will explore appropriate interactive technology use yielding the greatest impact in an early childhood learning environment. Presenters will share specific apps that promote creativity and play. Educators must constantly make reflective, responsive, and intentional judgments to promote positive outcomes for each child (NAEYC 2009a). Professional judgment and recommended guidelines are required to determine if and when a specific use of technology is age appropriate. Early childhood educators should be informed and familiar with research on traditional and newer interactive technologies and learning. All apps are not beneficial to young learners and participants will be encouraged to use Bloom’s Taxonomy as a lens when making selections for higher order learning in early childhood.
