Tracks: Future of EdTech Special Education

Alief ISD successfully implements a lean approach to providing assistive technology tools and services to students with disabilities on a districtwide scale. In this district of 47,000 students who speak 80-plus languages, about 3,500 students receive special ed services and nearly 40 percent have limited English proficiency. Michelle Nielsen will explain how to successfully employ sophisticated services with staffing and budget limits to meet the individual needs of all learners. Specifically, Michelle will discuss how you can utilize existing staff to create a depth of service delivery options. You'll see a year at a glance from the perspective of both Alief's AT team and its digital reading and writing team. And you'll learn how teachers, administrators and assistive technology staff can participate in meaningful ways on instructional, purchasing and leadership teams to keep your momentum going.
