Digital Games Help Develop Students' Literacy, Life and Career Skills (Room Bayhill 23 & 24)

This workshop showcases free digital learning games produced by Classroom Inc. (CI). CI is a nonprofit that helps students develop literacy, life and career skills by placing them in the role of the boss in the professional world and by supporting educators in creating student-centered classrooms. Led by two CI staff members and one to two middle school educators who use the digital learning games in their classrooms, this workshop will connect the story of creating a game-based curriculum guided by educational research with the story of how the games are used in the classroom to develop critical 21st century skills, such as decision-making, problem-solving and critical thinking. You’ll have the chance to play episodes of CI games online and engage in discussion of how the episodes address and foster students' development of literacy, life and career skills. You’ll also receive free literacy learning games and digital curriculum that can be immediately implemented in the classroom.
