Anniversary Power Panel: Fight For Your Right—Protect Your Scope (Room 41-42)

Scope of practice for licensed estheticians can be difficult to determine. Scope varies in all 50 U.S. states, and there is quite a bit of gray area in terms of what modalities estheticians can use in particular states. To complicate this further, advanced education in master esthetics can allow estheticians to practice additional protocols, and estheticians in a medical spa can also practice additional techniques, often under the supervision of a doctor. In the State of Illinois specifically, The Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, Division of Professional Regulation released an official statement in fall 2016 that listed prohibited procedures for estheticians that included: chemical peels, microdermabrasion other than superficial or light microdermabrasion, dermaplaning, microblading, microneedling and radio frequency, among others. Learn from a panel of experts from segments of law, esthetics, industry associations and regulation on what you can and can't do, and who you can talk to help alter your scope of practice.
