Radio frequency identification has been around for years, but it is starting to take off in retail, particularly apparel. Analysts estimate that some 8.7 billion apparel items will be tagged this, and more than half of all apparel retailers in the United States are using RFID on at least some items. With the tipping point nearing, it is critical for store designers to understand how the basics of how RFID works, how it will be integrated into store fixtures and how it can be used to transform the in-store experience.
