Fleets for the Future: Innovative Procurement Strategies to Reduce Cost & Aggregate Demand (Room 102A)

01 May 17
1:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Tracks: Medium- & Heavy-Duty Commercial Vehicles, Urban Fleet Mobility

Procurement activities for new vehicles and alternative fuel technologies can be a daunting task for many fleets. This peer-to-peer workshop will present efforts by Fleets for the Future, a U.S. Department of Energy Clean Cities project. This effort, led by the National Association of Regional Councils, focuses on making the procurement process easier and less expensive for fleets across all weight classes and ownership models. Through aggregated purchasing and a streamlined, intelligent procurement process, this project plans to reduce costs and increase deployment of alternative fuel vehicles. This workshop will explore the following topics:
  • What current efforts are underway to aggregate demand for new alternative fuel vehicle technologies? What results are known? What lessons can be learned?
  • How can fleets join Fleets for the Future’s existing efforts for joint procurement?
  • What considerations are needed when procuring alternative fuel vehicle technologies?
  • How can the models that work well be expanded to other alternative fuel vehicle types, weight classes, and organizations?
