The Role of Fleets in the Smart City (Room 102A)

The widespread connectivity afforded by smart technologies is beginning to transform the transportation sector. Data collected by buildings, vehicles, roads and other associated smart infrastructure can be used to improve vehicle efficiency, reduce transportation’s environmental impacts, and increase the speed and reliability with which people, goods, and services are moved. However, a critical challenge is how best to handle this significant volume of data. Leaders in the industry are therefore inventing creative solutions to take advantage of the sheer volume of data at fleet managers’ disposal. This session will explore some of the solutions that OEMs, fleets, regional agencies, and service providers have already employed to increase the ability of fleet vehicles to interact with and improve their surrounding environments.
