Confronting 2018’s Critical Issues:
How Creating an Adaptable Operation Helps Every Business Thrive

How many contractors operate in a business where you’re CERTAIN what the day (week, month, year?) is going to bring? Come on, raise your hands!

Exactly. Few business leaders know what to expect, and even those of us who think we know are often surprised by what comes to pass. That’s why structuring your business and training your key people to be flexible – and readying your operation to quickly adapt to market conditions good or bad – is essential to your success and growth.

But none of that structuring or training happens organically or by accident. Whether you are a just-the-right-size “Mom-and-Pop” shop, a mid-size company ready to burst, or an established business that experiences steady growth, it’s essential to plan for the unexpected and to build adaptability into your company. This engaging, highly interactive workshop will show you how.

Attendees will start by sharing examples of some of the major uncertainties – labor, pricing, competition, more? – They’ve experienced, including how those uncertainties affected a company.

Next you’ll get an NPE 2018 update of the various markets (and submarkets) that feed the paving and pavement maintenance industry – commercial, industrial, residential, municipal – including how those customers might be changing, and what that might mean to your business.

Then you’ll learn how to make sure your organization can adapt to virtually any situation. You’ll start with your people: You can’t succeed without the right people in the right job -- and you’ll learn how to develop skill sets for various positions, and how to identify those people (whether hiring or internally) who can excel in a position. You’ll learn which skills are “coachable” and which are not. Good coaching can transform the right people into the troubleshooting, adaptable leaders who can guide your company through whatever the market throws your way, and you’ll learn coaching skills that will help you be successful.

Then once you’ve got your team assembled and ready to adapt day to day or week to week, you can start looking to the future, answering the question, “Where Do I Want This Company to Be?” You can’t set your goals until your team is in place, but once your team is set they’re the ones who will help identify and fine-tune your goals and help you get there.

Through guided discussion these two experienced consultants will help you discover that a flexible, adaptable organization is the key to a thriving business. You can start your 2018 season by developing the flexible team you need to adapt to changing market conditions – whatever they might be – and to pursue the long-term planning that provides direction to every company, large or small. You’ll leave this eye-opening session with insights about your business you never had and with specific steps to take to enhance the adaptability of your company!
