There is a crime scene when machinery fails or is on the brink of failure. Finding the perpetrators in a gearbox failure is the big challenge. The "bad guys" in gearboxes include particles, moisture, air and varnish. The "good guys" include filters, condition monitoring and advanced oil analysis to identify the criminals and controlling their harmful effects.
