Wind Project O&M and Safety Conference

Keeping Your Workforce Focused (Room Paradise)

The wind energy industry is still a relatively young and emerging industry. Maintaining workers focus on EHS responsibilities during difficult or uncertain times is a difficult task for anyone to keep up with. PTCs come and go, companies struggle with finances from failed IPOs and mergers and workers who are on the front lines may not be able to focus on identifying and mitigating the hazards for the work they are performing during these times. When companies are acquired or merged, the integration of their respective safety programs is one of many challenges facing both organizations. However, to guard their most valued asset, their employees, the timely integration of their Safety Management Systems and, ultimately their cultures, is critical to ensuring the ongoing health and safety of all employees. Industries such as aviation, medicine and nuclear power have experienced significant consequences resulting from preventable human error. These same industries have developed Human Performance (HU) strategies to reduce the frequency and significance of events. Many of these strategies, as defined by the Department of Energy (DOE) and implemented within nuclear power generation, can be adapted to improve both industrial safety and quality within the wind industry. Identifying and capturing wind industry experience is essential to building a strong safety culture. Balancing ground up experience and top down expertise to develop a unique safety program for your organization will improve the overall safety culture. This session will address these issues and more.
