ComEd's Bronzeville Community Microgrid: Lessons Learned from Experience (Room 216AB)

The Bronzeville Community Microgrid (BCM) is the first utility-operated microgrid cluster, demonstrating how innovative technologies can support broader efforts to promote resilience and sustainability. ComEd, the electric utility serving 4 million customers in Northern Illinois, is installing this 7 MW microgrid in the Chicago neighborhood of Bronzeville with funding support from the U.S. Department of Energy. This microgrid enables ComEd to gain operational expertise and investigate how microgrids can support public services such as hospitals, police and fire departments, businesses and residents. The panelists will share different aspects of the BCM implementation including development of algorithms, testing and simulations, addressing lessons learned from design, construction and integration, and development and integration of the microgrid management system.
