Three utility representatives present their experiences building tools and processes to streamline DER interconnection. This includes the development of new software tools, integration of different systems, and the development of new processes. In areas where DER penetration is increasing at a fast rate, it is becoming critical that the hosting capacity and the proposed DER interconnection be studied before approval. Regulators, DER owners and customers are demanding that the approval process be fast while not compromising the necessary detailed engineering analysis. Presenters explain how new tools are helping utilities meet these challenges without large increases in utility personnel.
