UU 307: Revised IEEE 1547 DER Interconnection Standard (#D0151) (Room 213B)

**Evaluate this course. **

This course is designed to educate utility engineers and professionals working in the distributed energy resource (DER) area on recent changes proposed in IEEE 1547. Instructors, who facilitated the development of the standard, explain the rationales behind the proposed new requirements. DERs with smart inverters can provide grid supportive functionalities like voltage and frequency regulation, active power curtailment, and low/high-voltage and frequency ride-through. Successful deployment and utilization of smart inverters are critical for grid reliability. All the changes proposed in the IEEE 1547 have one common objective, enabling interconnection of more DERs in a safe and reliable manner.

Following major points will be covered in this course:

  • Introduction to interconnection standards, grid codes and certification process
  • Overview and rationales of major changes in the IEEE 1547 DER interconnection standard
  • Up-to-date status of the revision approval status and guidance regarding how to properly use the new standard

Who should attend this course?

  • Utility engineers handling the new DER interconnection requests, circuit impact studies, and system commissioning.
  • Higher level managers, involved in the DER policy and planning activities will learn about smart inverter functionalities, which are becoming increasingly important for reliable integration of higher penetration of solar PV in the electric network.
  • Solar industry stakeholders, including inverter manufacturers, PV plant designers, system installers and product certifying organizations
