Tracks: Physiology

The vast array of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors contributing skin sensitivity are abundant and may impact all levels of esthetic care and ultimately, anticipated treatment results. Key contributors to “skin stress” range from nutritional deficiencies, medications, health conditions, environmental influences and product use. As sensitive skin and related syndromes are on the rise, it is important to understand the primary development from a dermatological aspect, how the immune system influences skin sensitivity and what treatments and products may help or hinder sensitive skin.

This presentation explores the clinical and visual aspects of skin stress, inflammation and sensitive skin subtypes, and will provide an overview of some of the most inflammatory skin diseases encountered in the treatment room. Topics include: • Identifying Inflammation; • Signs of Skin Stress; • Topical Antagonists/Client Compliance and Behavior; • Management of Sensitivity and Irritation; and • Overview of Inflammatory Skin Diseases.
