Onsite Power Generation for Industrial Zones (Room Nile 1)

9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Tracks: Track E - Integration, Storage and Distributed Generation

Energy is the backbone of industrialization however Grid supply can be intermittent and / or cogeneration is required. Special Economic Zones, guaranteeing continuous power at reasonable cost, are being developed across ASEAN especially in Cambodia and Myanmar however their ability to provide this is often an issue. Furthermore clients are increasingly seeking renewable energy as their source of power supply. To compound this fuel supply can often be a major risk. Solar in the form of rooftop mounted on factories, especially rented factories and floating on water supply ponds can reduce the cost of electricity when Grid supply is reliable. Alternatively this can be backed up by reciprocating engines and / or batteries. Where gas supply is available the choice is often between high efficiency reciprocating engines and CCGT. Where electricity only is required typically engines are preferable however when cogeneration is required the commercial decision requires more detailed analysis. For agricultural related industrial zones the waste products from processing provide a ready fuel supply and there are often cogeneration requirements. In this instance biomass / biogas is often the most appropriate. The presentation shall review the various options for power supply to industrial zones and provide case studies.
