Large Turbogenerators Modernizations with Efficiency Improvements and Life-Time Extensions (Room Nile 3)

This paper will present the technical scope of modernizations of selected construction areas in large hydrogen- and water-cooled turbogenerators. These were successfully implemented by EthosEnergy Poland S.A. in turbogenerators of nominal power up to 600 MW, and can also be implemented in turbogenerators produced by any other original equipment manufacturer. The main purposes of the modernizations are to; upgrade the turbogenerator power, to improve key design and construction areas, and to increase operational efficiency, reliability, safety and turbogenerator life. The presented modernizing solutions and modifications are applicable to the whole turbogenerator, i.e. stator and rotor, together with ventilation system. The modernizing solutions were prepared based on achieving a range of optimizations, for example the internal cooling and ventilation system, stator winding, with application of high-quality modern materials. The presented solutions are already proven, having been implemented in many turbogenerators, operated in many countries globally. Test and diagnostics results of the modernized turbogenerators in operation have confirmed the correctness and accuracy of the predicted modernizing expectations.
