This session will explore the topic of using an individual's voice as a biometric modality, looking at the technology, applications, research areas, associated challenges and opportunities. Voice biometrics are growing in use beyond the traditional call center and intelligence uses, becoming part of the ANSI/NIST-ITL Biometric Interchange Standard in 2013, and now, more frequently the results of using this biometric modality are turning up as evidence in the US judicial system. Further, mobile devices provide a convenient platform for voice capture and distant transfer for remote authentication. As expected outcomes, in addition to a better understanding of this modality's potential and current limitations, a compilation of needs/issues, potential solution approaches, and future work will be developed. The stakes for voice biometrics have never been higher.
