Session Two: Electronic Initiation Systems: Current Trends & Safe Application of the Technology (Room Lone Star DEF)

27 Jan 18
9:40 AM - 10:30 AM

Tracks: Blasters Training Seminar

Speaker(s): Kameron Ray
With the continuing development of electronic initiation systems (EIS), new capability is continually being introduced in the field. EIS products are notably safer and more versatile than their pyrotechnic counterparts. However, with increased versatility comes increased complexity. We will discuss some basics of electronic blasting, and the benefits that can be gained, to help blasters understand the opportunities. We will then move on to learning innovative ways to take advantage of the latest developments such as automation, shooting multiple blasts from a single unit and using the mines mesh network for communication. Physical detonator advances and options like detonator shell composition, improved wire and wireless detonators will also be presented. Finally, safe working practices, bench tips and tricks, and misfire mitigation will be discussed.
