We all know what the experts say about the future of cyberterrorism. The recent headlines provide a sobering reminder that in fact we are all vulnerable. Lately, the media streams have been sounding all the bells and whistles. However, if you ask any IT server administrator they will tell you that this threat has been building for quite some time. They have the server logs to prove it. For those who are not familiar with ransomware, it is an unusually nasty piece of malware. It could be considered a form of electronic kidnapping. The social engineering behind it, however, is just as clever as the program itself.
