Incorporating Energy Efficiency Factors into the Appraisal and Valuation Process (Room 204)

An appraiser’s understanding of energy efficiency and sustainability investments is critical to maximizing owners’ return on investment and ensuring that buyers are purchasing buildings that meet their operational expectations. However, a significant lack of communication between owners, lenders and appraisers has contributed to a lack of recognition of these benefits. This session describe current industry efforts to encourage stakeholders to incorporate energy efficiency factors into the appraisal and valuation process. Panelists will discuss their experiences using tools, resources, training and strategies developed by the US Department of Energy to engage owners, lenders, and the appraisal community in this process.
