Ray Matulka, PhD, directory of toxicology for the Burdock Group, discusses the significant changes to the information needed to notify the US Food and Drug Administration of a conclusion of GRAS (generally recognized as safe) status for a new pet food ingredient. He explains how to plan for strategic research and development of a potential new ingredient, as well as the critical portions of a dossier explaining the safety information supporting GRAS status. A detailed evaluation of in-house documentation is necessary to ensure continued compliance with federal law.
