Maria Cattai de Godoy, PhD, assistant professor at the University of Illinois, illustrates the relevance of omics technology for the pet food industry, particularly in the fields of nutraceutical nutrition and nutritional approaches to support pet health and wellness. To date, nutrigenomics, microbiomics and metabolomics have been used in companion animal nutrition in healthy and diseased pet populations. While more research is warranted, Godoy explains how integrating and applying omics technology offers faster, more effective and non-invasive approaches to study canine and feline nutrition.
