Juan Gomez-Basauri, PhD, global director of the companion animal business for Alltech, reviews some of the recent research in brain health and the benefits of essential nutrients including fatty acids, vitamins and trace minerals (particularly selenium) as potential neuroprotective agents to delay the onset of neurodisorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and canine cognitive dysfunction syndrome. This work can provide insights into alternatives to improve well-being and quality of life for aging canines.
