Traditionally people in the swimming pool industry have looked at plaster, pebble or quartz surfaces as just a mixture of white cement, aggregates, admixtures and water.
Now Greg Garrett will present a new perspective on how to examine and understand finishes and their issues and how the student can learn to make better more durable surfaces.
Greg will discuss the four (4) phase multi-mineral nature of all cementitious materials to include:
- Cement Binder
- Aggregates
- Air Voids
- Interfacial Transitional Zones or ITZ's
This is a microstructural explanation that is often ignored in our industry.
The row of the ITZ will be discussed in detail and how understanding the ITZ will change your basic understanding of vementitiou interior pool finishes. More importantly this class will explain how to make better products with enhanced durability and increased chemical resistance.
